Marathon... or NOT

In case you didn't know I have been training to run, yes run, the Portland marathon since February. I started training when it was snowy and cold. Waking up at 6 am on Saturday's getting my miles in and then skiing the day away! I was tired but I loved it. Then I trained through the hot summer sometimes waking up at 4:30 am to beat the heat. I started lifting weights with a trainer because I wanted to run this race and run it well. I went to Disneyland and ran the half to prepare. I did the 14 miler and almost died. But I kept going. I did the 16, 18, and 20 milers and was READY! Ready to be done!

Well I never got to Portland. God said No. AGAIN. I had emergency surgery instead. On the of day my marathon I was in bed watching General Conference and following my friends running the race online waiting for them to finish my race and they did!

In case you forgot this is not the first time this has happened to me. I trained for the 2007 Nike Women's Marathon and sprained my ankles 10 days before. I finally did the 2008 Nike Women's after I re-trained. So I am 1 for 3. Not great stats. It is because of these low stats I have decided to retire. I am clearly not destined to be a runner, at least not long distance. I may run a few halves but never a full. Now even though I seem to have a bit of bad luck another huge reason for my retirement is that I don't really like to run. It is hard, time consuming, and my body doesn't like it. So farewell long distance running! I don't think I will miss you!
